I personally use RealPlayer to download videos from video sharing sites such as Youtube, Metacafe, Dailymotion and bunch of other video sites on the net. Downloading Youtube videos is super easy with RealPlayer. It lets you download YouTube videos and other web videos with just one mouse click and also plays virtually any type of audio or video.
Today, I'm going to do a quick tutorial on how to download videos from Youtube using RealPlayer software.
My step-by-step guide on how to download Youtube video with RealPlayer
The first thing you need to do is to download RealPlayer and install it on your computer. Before you begin to install RealPlayer, I suggest you to close all internet browsers i.e. Chrome, Firefox, IE, etc. in order to make the installation runs smoothly.
The Installation Process:
1. When you begin the setup (RealPlayer.exe), you will be shown this screen below:
Click on 'Options'.
2. Next you'll have to choose either 'RealPlayer Plus' or 'Basic RealPlayer':
Choose 'Basic RealPlayer'. (It's up to you wheter you want to purchase the Plus edition. Obviously, RealPlayer Plus has more functionalities)
3. Next is the installation options:
Since you want to download videos from Youtube (or from any other video sites), just select 'Enable browser download button'.
4. The installation will begin afterwards. But before that, you'll be given the option to close any active browser windows now or later (I suggest you to close all your internet browsers now so that you can use RealPlayer downloader right after the installation):
Click 'OK' to close active internet browsers. 'Cancel' to do it later.
5. After the installation, there will be a form for you to register an account (which is optional):
I personally choose 'Cancel' because I'm too lazy to type in the details (I'm a 'do it later' kind of guy). Opening an account is free of charge and can be done anytime.
The Video Downloading Process:
Ok here's what we have been waiting for. After the installation, you can now open your browser and start browsing Youtube.
While viewing a video, you will notice that a 'Download This Video' link start to appear at the top right hand corner of the video.
If you can't see the download link, move your mouse over the video until it appears.
Now you have two options: you can either click the 'Download This Video' link directly, or click the down arrow at the right and select the 'Save this video as' option. By default, RealPlayer will start download the video with its original title and saved to the default location set by RealPlayer - unless you change them using the 'Preferences' option.
RealPlayer will then show you the download progress. Just wait for it to complete the download. (You can browse other videos while it is downloading - no problem!)
Once the download has completed, you can click on the image of the video to play it in RealPlayer.
Alternatively, you can also use 'Locate File on Disk' to find to the video, and play it using other media player.
Oh I forgot to mention this; you can also download multiple Youtube videos all at once. But this may cause the download speed to be slower (and you'll have to wait a bit longer for all the downloads to finish). Well, unless you have a really fast broadband then it shouldn't be a problem.
